Wayne Aspeling, Justin Kiley, and Melanie Kiley at McDonald's EMEA Development Conference in Zagreb, Croatia.

How the Thinking Environment and Growth Mindset unlocked innovating and participatory discussions.

McDonald’s EMEA invited Wayne Aspeling from Transformational Meta Coaching (TMC) and the dynamic duo of Justin and Melanie Kylie from CreateConsulting to bring innovative and comprehensive thinking to their diverse Development Leadership team. Their distinct approach played a crucial role in fostering robust interaction among the attending delegates as they discussed growth opportunities and risk mitigation strategies.

Objectives:

  • Encourage full engagement and participation from each delegate to contribute to a joint strategic plan for their future success.
  • Gather the best ideas from McDonald’s Senior Executives across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
  • Educate the delegates on how a Growth Mindset can help them achieve ambitious goals.

Challenges:

  • Engaging executives who may have fixed opinions about the best ways to work towards a shared purpose and goal.
  • Ensuring that every delegate’s viewpoint is heard and understood, regardless of their position in the company hierarchy.
  • Motivating a diverse group of Executives to recognise areas where they need improvement.
  • Finding ways to keep all participants actively engaged throughout the sessions.

Solution:

  • Melanie Kylie introduced the participants to Nancy Kline’s The Thinking Environment, emphasizing the importance of receiving high-quality attention to improve the quality of their thinking.
  • Wayne shared Dr. Alan Watkin’s work on how individuals can optimize their daily performance by considering the impact of their physiology, emotions, feelings, and thinking.
  • Wayne also highlighted the benefits of Dr. Carol Dweck’s Growth Mindset in learning from mistakes and developing the characteristics necessary to achieve challenging goals.
  • The World Café engagement session, facilitated by Melanie and Justin Kylie’s team, showcased the effectiveness of innovative strategies in promoting robust interaction and learning.
  • Creative engagement strategies were used to sustain interest and participation throughout the event.
  • The participants were provided with interactive sessions and practical handouts as daily reminders, empowering them with the tools to apply these dynamic strategies in both their personal and professional lives.

We express our sincere gratitude to Bosko Nikolic and the McDonald’s EMEA event organizers for trusting in the collaborative teamwork of Transformational Meta Coaching and CreateConsulting Teams, which resulted in a resounding success.
